🔔 How You Can Help
• If you saw or heard anything suspicious around the time of the incident, please report it. • Check your CCTV or doorbell cameras for any unusual activity. • Be vigilant and ensure your own property is secure.
🔒 To prevent theft from domestic diesel storage tanks, the most effective measures are: secure the tank with locks, conceal its location, install lighting/CCTV, and use alarms or monitoring systems. Here’s a detailed breakdown of best practices you can follow:
🛡 Physical Security • Lockable Fill Points & Caps: Always fit a strong, tamper-proof lock to the tank’s lid and fuel lines. • Steel Cages or Enclosures: Consider housing the tank in a lockable cage or compound for added protection. • Anchor the Tank: Fix tanks to a solid base to prevent removal or tampering.
🌍 Location & Concealment • Out of Sight: Position tanks away from public roads or obvious access points. Concealing them behind buildings, hedges, or fencing reduces visibility. • Restricted Access: Install gates or barriers to limit vehicle access to the tank area.
💡 Deterrents • Lighting: Motion-sensor security lights discourage thieves who rely on darkness. • CCTV Systems: Visible cameras act as a deterrent and provide evidence if theft occurs. • Alarms: Fuel-level alarms can alert you if diesel is being siphoned unexpectedly.
👮 Community & Monitoring • Neighbourhood Watch: Inform neighbours to keep an eye out for suspicious activity. • Regular Checks: Monitor fuel levels frequently to spot unusual drops early. • Marking Fuel: Use chemical fuel markers or dyes to make stolen diesel traceable
